Exotic Species as a subject in the Earth Matters category considers the impact that introduced species have had on natural ecosystems throughout the world and how this has largely been facilitated by humans. This subject could include particular case studies which illustrate the harm that exotic species have had on natural environments, and how this has actually occurred within particular ecosystems. Topics may include food webs and how these have become impacted without the existence of the natural predators or environmental pressures that the species faced in their native land. Also for consideration is how human activity has facilitated the explosion of exotic species throughout history, the best example being the european rat. Other topics for consideration may include examples of steps taken to reduce the impact of exotic species and how successful or otherwise these measures have been.
