GCSE Art and Design

The GCSE is the national testing program for Secondary Schools included in the National Curriculum of England and Wales, normally occurring at the end of Year 11 (Key Stage 4). GCSE Art and Design may involve students learning in a particular area of the syllabus including drawing, ceramics, painting, printing and photography. Students may study in one of two modules: Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. Elements of Art involves the study of line, colour, tone, space, form, shape, pattern and texture. Students may undertake drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, and print making. Principles of design include balance, emphasis, unity, variety, proportion and rhythm. Students may also do a variety of studies in this area. It is advised that GCSE Art and Design Key should only be taught by teachers experienced in the GCSE program.
