The GCSE is the national testing program for Secondary Schools included in the National Curriculum of England and Wales, normally occurring at the end of Year 11 (Key Stage 4). GCSE Combined Science involves students learning about Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The Biology component may involve the study of cell structure and organisation, the immune response, evolution, genetic variation and inheritance, energy transformation in living things, homeostasis and ecology. Chemistry may involve the study of atoms, molecules and compounds, the periodic table, element trends and properties, properties of matter, ionic and covalent bonding, chemical reactions and equations, energy change, enthalpy, rates of reactions, organic chemistry, molarity, chemical equilibrium, chemical analysis, stoichiometric calculations. The Physics component may involve the study of forces, waves, electricity, circuits, Ohms Law, magnetism and electromagnetism, energy, the particle theory of matter and atomic structure. It is advised that GCSE Combined Science should only be taught by teachers experienced in the GCSE program.
