Immunology as a subject in the University or College category involves the study of how the human body is able to counter the myriad of external factors such as viruses, bacteria and other material which invade the body on a regular basis. Topics may include an analysis of the different immune systems in other animals as well as plants, and an analysis of the human immune system from an evolutionary perspective. Also considered may be case studies of pandemics and epidemics, how to boost your immune system, the effect of immunisations, and the actual mechanism through which the immune system operates at the cellular level, and the formation of antibodies to combat the spike proteins that allow certain viruses to penetrate host cells and cause infection.
