In New South Wales, high school students in Years 11 and 12 who take the Science Life Skills course focus on developing practical skills and understanding concepts related to everyday life and the natural environment. The curriculum is designed for students with special education needs. Key areas of learning include:
Biological Sciences: Studying living things, ecosystems, and the importance of biodiversity.
Physical Sciences: Exploring basic principles of physics and chemistry, including forces, energy, matter, and chemical reactions. Earth and Environmental Sciences: Understanding the Earth’s systems, natural resources, and the impact of human activities on the environment.
Scientific Skills: Developing skills related to scientific inquiry, including observation, experimentation, data collection, and interpretation.
Practical Applications: Applying scientific concepts to real-life situations, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
